Meet the Teacher

Rebekah Hair is an Author/Illustrator and Art Teacher primarily working with Homeschoolers and Private Schools. She studied at Louisiana Christian University and has been teaching for three years. She has published two picture books and illustrated for two more.

When I was in Middle and High school, I wasn’t able to take proper art lessons. There were basic painting classes, but I was the oldest student there, and I felt very self-conscious. Being homeschooled, I didn’t have access to proper art education, and my artistic ability suffered. Even after college I struggled to learn how to properly tell stories through art, and how to create and illustrate picture books.

However, as a teacher, I want to pass the knowledge I have gained over the years to the next generation, so the cycle doesn’t repeat!

My first book, “Tobey the Collector”

Excelsior Classes offers online courses that can be accessed by students both in the US and abroad. They allow students in rural and secluded areas to take courses that otherwise would not be available, especially something as Niche as Illustration and Storytelling. And of course…

I’m the one teaching that course! I’ve put in not only what I learned in college, but also the lessons I’ve learned since, as I pursued my first published book, “Take that, Hurricane!”

Illustration and Visual Storytelling

Learn how to draw with a story in mind! Students will learn about value, expression, color psychology, composition, and how to tell stories without words. A perfect course for artistic kids who are interested in illustration, picture books, or comic books.

Illustration and Visual Storytelling – Excelsior Classes

Illustrate a Picture Book

The next level of Illustration is creating a finished work! There are two sides to this: Sequential art (Comic Books) and Picture Books! Create full-page artwork, incorporate in words and storytelling, and learn about word economy, page turns, layouts and dynamism, and how to express yourself to different audiences! Useful for people interested in storytelling, education, etc. Can also be a solid foundation for animation or Comic Work. Learn how to turn an idea into a finished piece!
