I was sent a postcard in the mail.
It was made by one of the artists I really respect. I’ve watched this man’s art style change and evolve and grow for seven years now. He’s an amazing storyteller and I collect his books and artwork.
The postcard was covered in cute artwork, and for a moment I remembered what I loved about festivals and book fairs as a kid.
When I was really young I loved when we could pick prizes for small achievements. It was very cheap little stuff on the most part, like tops, pencils, rubber ducks, erasers, etc.
It reminded me of what this book project is for. Sure, I want to give this character life and a future, but the most important thing for a children’s book is the child who will read it. I want to make something that child will like. Something exciting, pretty, and fun.
So I’ve made a postcard. And I have a vision in my head of what a possible festival or fair will involve. It might be just a dream, but so was this book, and I want to give it wings.
Happy Holidays!
